Lactose intolerance is very common, especially in adults. According to the U.S. National Library of Medicine, about 30 million Americans have developed some degree of lactose intolerance by the age of 20, and some studies estimate 75 percent of the world’s population are lactose intolerant; meaning the majority of humans lack the enzymes needed to break down lactose.
